Development of web-based SkyStream multicast satellite content delivery network
Back in the early days, when SkyStream Networks were an independent organization, they specialized in a suite of broadcast satellite headend equipment, such as source and edge media routers, zband multicast delivery system. OmniStream was the web-based CDN product portfolio that employed the SMR/EMR as well as multicast delivery systems, with redirection to provide the highest quality viewing experience from the lowest latency node. Its satellite distribution brought speed and reliability with rapid publishing through a web-based management interface, high speed file transfer, and guaranteed delivery based on reliable transmission and recovery protocols. It provided high quality streaming of live events, and through a distributed redundant network, could support streaming media as well as traditional web and enterprise files.
SkyStream was aquired by Tandberg Television, which in 2010 was then itself acquired and is now part of Ericson Inc to strengthen its Television and Video product portfolio.
